Puni Puni Poemi ( Japanese title ぷ に ぷ に ☆ ぽ え み ぃ ) is an anime - OVA and offshoot of the anime series Excel Saga , which parodies the Magical Girl genre.

action

The young poemi Watanabe , daughter of Shinichi Watanabe or Nabeshin , has two dreams: to become a voice actress ( seiyū ) and that the cool K sends her a message on her pager . However, the hyperactive Poemi could hardly be less gifted for her dream job and K could not be less interested in her - until suddenly an alien apparently kills Poemi's parents and her home falls victim to the flames. So she is forced to accept the offer of her fond friend Futaba and move into the house of the Aasu sisters . They all have their own particular problems with sexuality (too small breasts, constant sex drive, sadomasochism, etc.).

When the aliens attack the city and the passive, supernatural powers of the Aasu sisters turn out to be useless, Poemi comes across a talking fish who transforms them into Puni Puni Poemi . With the help of her new superpowers, she destroys the attacking robot, which resembled a millipede. However, Poemi's ego has quite a few problems with her new powers, which she uses regardless of loss, e.g. B. also punished innocent citizens. Eventually, the alien mothership (a direct reference to the Star Wars Death Star ) appears and Poemi discovers that her new family has been kidnapped by the aliens. The leader of the aliens is none other than K . After a controversial argument, she meets her father and "mother" again and returns to earth with the sisters.

Conception

The series is a parody of the Magical Girl genre and of himself. Poemi always speaks of himself in the third person, calls himself Kobayashi and addresses her father Nabeshin as a director . Kobayashi is the surname of the Seiyū Yumiko Kobayashi who sang the opening credits and took on the role of poemi. She is also the spokeswoman for Excel Kobayashi , one of the "Excel Girls" from Excel Saga . Nabeshin is the cameo role of director Wata nabe Shin ichi, which was also featured in Excel Saga.

The transformation scenes in this genre "constantly repeated for cost reasons" become a key element in the plot. The fan service is caricatured by revealing nudity and the friendship mentioned in Magical Girl series with the homoerotic and one-sided relationship between Futaba and Poemi. Numerous elements of the plot suggest a swipe at the Card Captor Sakura series .

Camera pans are often made in the production where animated cameramen are shown.
