Puts Marie is a Swiss rock - band from Biel / Bienne .
Band history
The band was founded in 2000 as an instrumental quartet in Biel-Bienne . In 2001 the first album Musique chinoise was released in-house.
The quartet became a trio when Felippe Zeltner left the band. Igor Stepniewski switched from saxophone to electric bass , and a musical reorientation from jazz rock to punk rock took place. In 2003 the second album Is God a Dog? published in-house. With Max Usata as the singer, Puts Marie became a quartet again. The band left Switzerland for almost two years, traveled around in a mobile home and made a living from street music . Igor Stepniewski switched from electric bass to double bass , the band now played chansons, gypsy punk, swing, acoustic punk, street pop and rap. The trip led through France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Poland and the Czech Republic (road tour “Eurotrip”). In Avignon in 2005 the band recorded their third album Le drame du Pastis, which documented their street music. In addition to his own songs, there were also many cover versions to be heard on it. a. by Tom Waits , Adriano Celentano , The Beatles or Paolo Conte .
In 2007 the fourth album Dandy Riot was released on Hazelwood Records in Frankfurt . Beni06 and his Farfisa joined the band for the recordings , and the instrument has been part of the Puts Marieschen Sound ever since. The music on the album became more pop and rocky again, but the acoustic sound remained for the time being.
In 2009 the band performed for the first time outside of Europe, in Mexico City . The maxi CD After the Hangman Comes the Surgeon was created . The sound was no longer acoustic, Igor Stepniewski switched from the double bass back to the electric bass. Max Usata then emigrated to New York ., Syrup Gagavil founded the Yagwud Recordings recording studio in Biel-Bienne , Nick Porsche released his first solo album, Beni06 started a family, and Igor Stepniewski stayed in Mexico City for the time being. During this time the project with Annamateur , Puts Marie and Annamateur = Putsmateur came into being and was a mixture of theater, comedy, musical and pop.
In 2013 Max Usata returned from New York and Igor Stepniewski from Mexico City, and the band recorded their third EP Masoch , which was released in 2013 on Two Gentlemen Records in Lausanne .
The fourth EP Masoch II followed in 2014. The two EPs Masoch I and Masoch II were combined on their fifth album Masoch I- II in 2015 and released on Two Gentlemen Records in Lausanne and on Yotanka records in Nantes . The album was named Album of the Year 2016 by Indie Suisse. The band received, among other things, the culture award of the city of Biel-Bienne and the recognition award of the canton of Bern .
After the release of the seventh album Catching Bad Temper (Two Gentlemen recordings - Lausanne, Yotanka records - Nantes, Haldern Pop recordings - Haldern ), Puts Marie went on tour in 2018 and 2019 through France, South Africa, Swaziland, La Réunion, Germany, Belgium and the Switzerland.
The music has become heavier, more rap-heavy and mixed with free improvisation. Nick Porsche left the band as a drummer in 2019, and Tobi Schramm joined the band.

Mister Milano
When Max Usata lived in Brooklyn, he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute and founded the side project "Mister Milano" with Igor Stepniewski and Lou Caramella. Usata sings Italian for 1980s electro pop . In 2017 the album Mister Milano was released with seven tracks.
