Pyrenaria is a genus of plants fromthe tea shrub family (Theaceae).
description
Pyrenaria are evergreen trees, their leaves are spiral, leathery and serrated. The flower stalks are short. There are two (rarely more) before-leaves , these are permanent, only rarely are they obsolete. The five to six sepals are unevenly shaped, the five to six (rarely up to twelve) petals are weakly fused at the base, as are the stamens , which are also attached to the base of the petals.
The ovary is five to sixfaced (rarely three to ten), with two to three (rarely up to five) ovules per carpel . The stylus is simple or branched or consists of ungrown stylus branches. The fruit is a stone fruit , rarely a capsule , the calyx is occasionally retained at the fruit base. The seeds are elliptical, the embryo straight, the cotyledons are thin, tightly folded and twisted, an endosperm is missing. It is not known by which animals the seeds are spread.
distribution
The genus is restricted to Southeast Asia, it is distributed southward from China to western Malesia , where it is found in evergreen forests.

- Pyrenaria microcarpa (Dunn) H. Keng (Syn .: Pyrenaria shinkoensis (Hayata) H. Keng , Camellia shinkoensis (Hayata) Makino , Pyrenaria virgata (Koidz.) H. Keng , Thea virgata Koidz. , Tutcheria virgata (Koidz.) Nakai ): It occurs in two varieties in China, Vietnam, Taiwan and Japan.
- Pyrenaria pahangensis H.Keng : It occurs on the Malay Peninsula.
- Pyrenaria spectabilis (Champ. Ex Benth.) CY Wu & SX Yang : It occurs in two varieties in China and Vietnam.
