Python (potter)
Python ( Greek Πύθων ) was an Attic potter in the early 5th century BC. Chr.
Four signed bowls are currently known from Python . His works are characterized by compact forms. One of the bowls was also signed by the vase painter Epiktetos , the other three by Duris . It can be assumed that there was a similarly close working relationship between Duris and Python as between the approximately simultaneous masters of the late Archaic and early Classical periods , Hieron and Makron . Based on stylistic comparisons, Hansjörg Bloesch and John D. Beazley assigned almost 40 other bowls painted by Duris to Python as a potter. The dating of the works was based on the stylistic-chronological classification of the duris.
