Chai Po Wa
Chai Po Wa - also Qi Baohua - (born April 12, 1966 ) is a table tennis player from Hong Kong . It was internationally active from 1988 to 1999 and took part in six world championships and two Olympic Games .
Career
Chai Po Wa achieved her greatest successes at Commonwealth Championships, in which she participated in 1989, 1991, 1994 and 1995 and won 13 gold medals, four each in singles, four in doubles with Chan Tan Lui and in team competition and one in mixed. From 1989 to 1999 she was nominated for all six world championships . Here she won bronze four times, namely in 1989 and 1995 with the team and in 1993 with Chan Tan Lui and 1997 with Cheng Hongxia in doubles.
In 1992 she qualified for the first time to take part in the Olympic Games . In the individual she reached the quarter-finals after victories over Lee Jeong-Im (South Korea), Kerri Tepper (Australia), Sonia Touati (Tunisia) and Marie Hrachová , where she was defeated by the Chinese Qiao Hong . Also in doubles with Chan Tan Lui , she made it to the quarterfinals, which were lost to Chen Zihe / Gao Jun from China.
In 1996 she prevailed in the individual group matches against Fabiola Ramos (Venezuela), Mirjam Hooman-Kloppenburg and Adriana Nastase-Simion-Zamfir (Romania), but was eliminated against Kim Hyon-hui (North Korea). In doubles she competed again with Chan Tan Lui and came back to the quarterfinals. In the group matches they won against Eliana Gonzalez / Milagritos Gorriti (Peru) and Åsa Svensson / Pernilla Pettersson (Sweden) and were defeated by Kim Hyon-hui / Tu Jong-Sil (North Korea) and thus made it to the first round, where, however, Kim Mu Gyo / Park Gyeong-Ae (South Korea) were too strong.
The best place in the ITTF world rankings was achieved by Chai Po Wa at the end of 1992 with place 7.
