Gao Jun (born January 25, 1969 in Baoding , China ) is an American table tennis player from China . She took part in the Olympic Games four times and won silver in doubles in 1992.

Career

Gao Jun was born in China. At the age of five she began to play table tennis under the guidance of a trainer. At the age of 17, she was accepted into the national team of China. She was trained by Zhang Xielin , Zhang Li and Hui Jun . In 1994 she moved to the USA, but played under the Chinese flag until 1999. She later took on American citizenship.

Since 1989 (until 2012) she took part in 15 world championships . In 1991 she was world champion in doubles with Chen Zihe , with the Chinese team she was second. At the next World Cup in 1993 , she also won the title in the team competition. She made it to the semifinals four times, in 1989 in doubles with Liu Wei and in mixed with Chen Longcan and in 1993 in singles and doubles with Chen Zihe. In 1992 she qualified for the first time to take part in the Olympic Games . Here she and her doubles partner Chen Zihe won the silver medal behind the Chinese Deng Yaping / Qiao Hong . In her Olympic participation under the flag of the USA - in 2000 , 2004 and 2008 - she did not come close to medal ranks.

Since 1999 Gao Jun has participated in the North American Championship , where she won many titles in singles and doubles with various partners. She also won the PAN-American Games in 1999, 2003 and 2007 in singles, in 2003 in doubles with Jasna Fazlić and in 1999 and 2007 in team competitions. She achieved success at the ITTF Pro Tour , where she finished first in doubles with Shen Yanfei in 2005 and second in 2006 at the Grand Finals .

In 2009 Gao Jun was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame (American Table Tennis Association). She has been running a table tennis school in El Monte (California) since 2011 .

Activities in Europe

Gao Jun played for the Dutch club TTV Heerlen until 2007 and then moved to the German Bundesliga for TV Busenbach . She stayed here for a season and then returned to Heerlen.
