The Sidney was built under construction number 85 at the Victoria Machinery Depot in Victoria and completed in May 1960. On June 15, 1960, the ship completed its maiden voyage and was henceforth used on the route from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen. In 1963 it was renamed the Queen of Sidney .
The Queen of Sidney remained in service with BC Ferries for forty years before being retired in November 2000. After a two-year layover , the ship went to the Rainy River Cedar Company in 2002, which brought it to Mission and laid up there on the Fraser River. The Queen of Sidney is there along with six other, smaller ships, some of which have already sunk. Among them is the wooden San Mateo ferry , which was commissioned in 1922 and which is half sunk and partly derelict right next to the Queen of Sidney . The ship graveyard has meanwhile become a destination for photographers and tourists. The future of the Queen of Sidney and is unclear.
