Queensbridge (short: QB ) is a public housing estate in the New York borough of Queens . The settlement is considered a social hotspot and has one of the highest crime rates in the city.

It is one of the largest public housing projects in North America and is administered by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

location

QB is located on Long Island in the Queens borough of New York between Vernon Boulevard and 21st Street. The name Queensbridge comes from the Queensboro Bridge (59th Street), which is south of QB. QB is divided into two complexes, the North Houses (40th Avenue) and the South Houses (41st Avenue). There are eight blocks and 96 buildings that make up Queensbridge. A subway station on the southern edge was named after the district.

There are a number of successful hip-hop artists from Queensbridge. In the mid-1980s, rap battles were held between QB and the Bronx, in which both sides claimed to be the birthplace of the hip-hop movement. KRS-One represented the Bronx and dissed MC Shan and all of Queensbridge with The Bridge Is Over .

Queensbridge rappers are Nas , MC Shan , Onyx , Large Professor , Marley Marl , Roxanne Shanté , The Bravehearts , Kiing Shooter, Mobb Deep , Infamous Mobb , Cormega , Capone-N-Noreaga (Capone is from Queensbridge), Nature , Tragedy Khadafi , Big Noyd and Craig G .

Other Queensbridge people include Ron Artest (basketball player) and Chamique Holdsclaw (basketball player) - plays for the WNBA team Los Angeles Sparks . The eminent filmmaker Julie Dash grew up here too.
