Quillan Roberts (born September 13, 1994 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian football goalkeeper .

Roberts gained greater fame for a goal scored from his own half of the field.

Career

In the club

Roberts signed his first professional contract on April 10, 2012, making it the seventh player to make it from Toronto's own youth to the professional squad. He made his debut for the professional team on July 21, 2012 in a friendly against Liverpool , he was substituted on at the beginning of half time. After not coming to the league for two seasons, he was loaned out to the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2014 . He made his debut for the Hammerheads on the first match day on April 5 against the Harrisburg City Islanders , the game ended goalless with 0-0, for Roberts it was a successful debut since he did not concede a goal. After 17 games, he then returned to Toronto.

On March 20, 2015, Toronto FC II was loaned to the United Soccer League .

National team

Roberts was part of the U-17 of Canada at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup . There he was planned as the second goalkeeper, but was used due to an injury to the regular goalkeeper. He made his debut for the Canadian national football team on March 30, 2015, when he came on for Milan Borjan in a game against Puerto Rico.

The gate

During his mission, Roberts gained international attention when he scored a goal against England's U-17s : Canada were 2-1 down in the 85th minute when Roberts ran the ball out of the box to just under the center line. because there was no opponent in Canada's half of the field. His subsequent shot in the direction of the opponent's goal hit the ground once before striking the goal as England's goalkeeper was too far in front of his goal. The game eventually ended 2-2. With his goal Roberts saved his team a point against the highly favored England. This made Roberts the first goalkeeper to score in a FIFA final tournament.
