history

The Quirrenbacher Mühle has been documented since the end of the 15th century. At that time it existed as one of four sovereign ban mills in the area of the Bergisches Amt Löwenburg . The parish of Aegidienberg (Amt Löwenburg) and the Honschaft Eudenbach in the parish of Oberpleis ( Amt Blankenberg ) belonged to their ban district . The Quirrenbacher Mühle, initially listed as "Mühle zu Honnefrod" (Aegidienberg), was a grain mill . It was awarded on a long lease , with an annual lease of 9 Malter Korn (1472/1493) and mostly for a period of 24 years.

One of the first tenants known by name to take over the mill in 1597 came from Hövel . It was then leased for a long period to a Quirrenbach family who lived in the town of the same name . This is how the mill got its name, which can be traced back to 1711 at the latest. At that time the annual lease had risen to 12 Malter rye , but this year it was already paid in Reichstalern . In 1772 the Quirrenbach family did not get a chance for the first time with a new lease.

The new tenant came from Berghausen , after repair and renovation work his family was able to live in the mill, unlike its predecessors. At that time the mill was structurally in poor condition. In 1797, detailed plans were made for a new building that would also include a second grinding tunnel . After disputes about taking over manual and tensioning services , construction work finally began in late summer 1800 and was completed in 1801/02. For the new two-storey mill building in Tudor were broken stones used, from the quarry Scheurenberg with rust rings originated.

With the dissolution of the Duchy of Berg (1806) and the lifting of the mill compulsion (1811), the function of the Quirrenbacher Mühle as a sovereign ban mill ended. It initially remained in state ownership, but was leased for shorter periods of time. In 1814 repairs were carried out on the mill equipment. The mill's economic situation deteriorated due to the establishment of four more mills in the area, so that in 1821 the rent was also reduced. In 1823 the mill went into private ownership. In the 1843 census , the Quirrenbach grinding mill had two residents.

In 1897 the two weirs of the Quirrenbacher Mühle, which were used to divert the water into the mill ditch , led to disputes. As they made the fish pass more difficult, the mill owner at the time was obliged to make appropriate structural changes. In 1900 the Quirrenbacher Mühle also had a stable and a bakery , in 1921 a new stable was built and in 1939 a barn . In the 1950s, the mill was used to produce rye meal until the last tenant left it after a change of ownership in the spring of 1958.

The agricultural buildings of the Quirrenbacher Mühle are now used by a Brüngsberg horse farm.
