The Independence of Spades ( Tajik Қуллаи Истиқлол / Qullai Istiqlol ) is a mountain in the Pamirs in Tajikistan .
The mountain was originally called Dreispitz , named by the German-Soviet Alai-Pamir expedition , which discovered it in 1928. Karl Wien and Eugen Allwein failed when attempting to climb it. After the Second World War , the mountain was renamed the Revolution of Spades ( Қуллаи Инқилоб / Qullai Inqilob ). The first ascent was finally made in 1954 by a Soviet mountaineering group led by Alexei Ugarow . Since July 2006 the mountain has been known as the Independence of Spades .
The glaciated summit is at an altitude of 6940 m . It forms the highest elevation of the Jasgulem chain . The nutrient zone of the Fedchenko Glacier lies on the northwest flank . The glaciers on the east and south-west flanks are drained via the Bartang .
