Eugen Allwein (born February 26, 1900 in Munich ; † October 5, 1982 there ) was a German high altitude climber. In 1928 he was one of the three first climbers of Lenin Peak .

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , Allwein studied medicine in Munich from 1919 to 1924. As a student he was a member of the right-wing conservative protection and defiance alliance of various voluntary corps. He belonged to Paul Bauer's circle of friends and was a member of the AAVM Alpine Club together with Julius Brenner , Wilhelm Fendt , Willy Merkl , Peter Aufschnaiter , Karl Wien , Willo Welzenbach and Leo Maduschka . From 1932 Allwein was head of the mountaineering group in the DuÖAV . In this position, he sought contact with Reich Sports Leader Hans von Tschammer und Osten , who in 1933, during a meeting with Allwein, Raimund von Klebelsberg , Reinhold von Sydow and Robert Rehlen, ordered Paul Bauer to come to Berlin and to head the “specialist office for mountaineering and hiking in German Reich Association for Physical Exercise ”.

Allwein was one of the most successful high-altitude climbers of the 1920s. In 1926 he and Welzenbach successfully ascented the north face of the Dent d'Hérens for the first time . In 1928 he took part in the German-Soviet Alai-Pamir expedition , and on September 25, together with Karl Wien and Erwin Schneider, he managed the first ascent of the 7134  m high Lenin Peak, the highest summit climbed to date. He was a participant in the German Kangchenjunga expedition in 1929 and 1931 , but neither of them reached their destination.
