The Réserve écologique Louis-Ovide-Brunet is a protected area established in 1989 on an area of 668.57 hectares in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec in the regional county municipality of Le Domaine-du-Roy .

It is located 20 km south of the municipality of Chambord in the municipality of Lac-Bouchette et Saint-André-du-Lac-Saint-Jean . It represents and protects the forests typical of the Lac Bouchette ecoregion , in which the yellow birch dominates.

The undulating reserve is located between 330 and 430  m above sea level. The subsoil often consists of granite and mangerite as well as pegmatite , on which tillite was deposited during and after the last ice age . Podsol was created, interspersed with rock and stone , which, depending on the shape of the terrain and the degree of waterlogging, has different thicknesses.

In addition to the yellow birch, there are poplar and paper birch , but also black spruce . However, agriculture, forest fires and, above all, the timber industry have damaged the forest for more than a century, so that the stocks are usually only 30 to 60 years old. The proximity of moors, lakes and streams is, however, a good basis for a recovery of the flora . The fauna is unusually rich, so that bears, foxes and elk are common.

The name of the area goes back to the botanist Abbé Louis-Ovide Brunet (1826–1876). He was vicar at the Cathedral of Québec from 1848–49 and 1853, and from 1858–61 he taught botany at the Séminaire de Québec , from which the Laval University emerged . He also worked there from 1863 to 1871 and founded the University's Botany Museum. He then taught natural history and also gave lectures at the Paris Sorbonne and the National Museum of Natural History there . In 1870 he published his largest monograph , the Éléments de botanique et de physiologie végétale, suivis d'une petite flore simple et facile pour aider à découvrir les noms des plantes les plus communes au Canada . However, his poor health soon forced him to resign.
