The Río Bueno is a river in the Región de los Ríos in southern Chile . At its lower reaches it forms the border to the Región de los Lagos . It rises in the glacial lake Lago Ranco and flows into the Pacific Ocean .
history
The areas in the area of the Río Bueno were reached early by Spanish conquistadors under Pedro de Valdivia , who founded the city of Santa Marina de Gaete (today's Osorno ) south of the river in 1553 . However, continued resistance from the local Huilliche in the Arauco War forced the Spanish to retreat around 1603, and the area remained out of their control until the end of the colonial period.
