River course

The Río Iscuandé arises in the Colombian Western Cordillera at an altitude of about 280  m at the confluence of the Río El Turbio and Río Bracito . It initially flows north for 5 km before turning west. At river kilometer 100 it reaches the western Colombian coastal lowlands. From river kilometer 93 the Río Iscuandé turns north-northwest. The Río Guapi runs further to the east and the Río Tapaje to the west . About 30 kilometers above the estuary is the city of Santa Bárbara (Iscuandé) on the left bank of the Río Iscuandé. At river kilometer 10 the island Isla Soledad lies in the river. The Iscuandé River then widens to form an estuary that opens out towards the sea.
