The Río Tijuana ( English Tijuana River ) is a 195 kilometer long river in northern Lower California in Mexico and in the extreme south of the US state California . It flows into the Pacific on the southern border of California . The Tijuana River is dammed in the southeast of Tijuana by the Abelardo L. Rodríguez Dam , for irrigation and drinking water supply .

The Río Tijuana rises in the Sierra de Juárez in the Mexican state of Baja California about 70 kilometers from Ensenada . Then it flows through Tijuana about 8 kilometers from the Pacific. It then flows across the state line at San Ysidro , a district of San Diego , and reaches the Pacific Ocean 15 kilometers south of downtown San Diego at Imperial Beach .
