The Río Tomayapo (also Río Tomayapu ) is one of the tributaries of the Río San Juan del Oro , which later belongs to the river system of the Río Pilcomayo in Bolivia via the Río Camblaya and the Río Pilaya .

course

The Río Tomayapo flows along its entire length of 110 kilometers in an approximately north-westerly direction through the Tarija department . The river rises on the western slopes of the Cordillera de Sama on Cerro Sola at an altitude of 4178 meters in the municipality of Yunchará , just under thirty kilometers southwest of the city of Tarija . For the first fifteen kilometers, it bears the name “Río Sola”, flows in a north-westerly direction and ends at an altitude of 3,535 meters in a 750 meter long and about 500 meter wide reservoir. The river then flows largely north for the next 25 kilometers and passes the town of Iscayachi . It then turns again in a largely north-westerly direction, crosses the province of Eustaquio Méndez with the village of La Parroquia (formerly: Tomayapo ), before finally flowing into the Río San Juan del Oro at the border with the Chuquisaca department .

In its entire course, the Río Tomayapo does not flow into any noteworthy tributaries, so that the river has a very irregular flow in almost its entire course.
