location

The Rüdenet is the slightly northwestern mountain ridge of the Drachenfels, facing the Rhine , below Schloss Drachenburg . Below the Rüdenets are numerous allotment gardens , a few isolated houses and the southern foothills of the old town of Königswinter.

history

The Rüdenet is one of three Roman quarries in the Siebengebirge in which trachyte was extracted. Stone slides led the broken blocks towards a loading point. From the 13th century, the Rüdenet is said to have been used to complete the Cologne Cathedral . In over 60 blocks on the Rüdenet, signs of Roman mining activities have been preserved, especially as traces of wedge splitting.

House Rüdenet (1917)

By 1811 at the latest, a winery of the same name had been built on Rüdenet , which included extensive vineyard terraces and an orchard . The main building of Haus Rüdenet was a massive quarry stone building , it also had a stable building. In 1843 the residential area had five residents under the spelling Rüdennet , and in 1885 with the current name four residents. In 1913 the property was extensively rebuilt. In the post-war period , the winery was a popular place for excursions due to the exposed view over the Rhine Valley. At the end of the 1970s, the vineyard terraces on Rüdenet were demolished in the course of land consolidation . In addition to road construction, this led to a destabilization of the slope, as a result of which after 1981 landslides and damage to the Rüdenet house, which for this reason had become dilapidated in 1984 and was demolished in 1985.

The block stream or the trachyte rock sea of the Rüdenets are a protected ground monument .
