Rüdiger "Rudi" Traub (born September 10, 1968 ) is a former German handball player and coach .
Career
Traub began playing handball in the GDR . From 1983 he played for the ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt and attended the sports school in Frankfurt (Oder) . With the club he was first GDR champion in 1989 and a short time later was in the final of the IHF Cup . There they were defeated by TuRU Düsseldorf . Before German reunification he had played 60 junior and 16 senior international matches for the GDR national team and in 1990 moved to Bundesliga club VfL Fredenbeck . In 1994 he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club . As a second division, the club surprisingly reached the semi-finals of the DHB Cup , where Traub again suffered a bitter defeat against Düsseldorf. The TuRU successor club HSV Düsseldorf lost to 16:17. In the league there was a head-to-head race for promotion with TSV GWD Minden . Fredenbeck missed the ascent by one point and Traub switched to the rival from Minden . In his fifth year he reached the cup semi-finals again with the team , which was clearly lost against SG Flensburg-Handewitt with 20:27. Traub joined the second division club HC 93 Bad Salzuflen , with whom he was relegated in the second year. However, he stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga for another four years. First one year at HSG Augustdorf / Hövelhof , then three years at TuS Spenge . From 2006 to 2010 he played for the national division SG Bünde-Dünne. The first three years of that as a player-coach. Then he ended his career.
