Robert Townsend Layton (born April 16, 1884 in Cambridge , England , † November 3, 1941 in Los Angeles , California ) was a British special effects artist who was once nominated for the Oscar for best special effects.

Life

Layton created the special effects for the hurricane sequences in the 1937 film drama directed by John Ford with Dorothy Lamour , Jon Hall , Mary Astor ... then came The Hurricane.

At the Oscar ceremony in 1941 he was with Ray Binger and Thomas T. Moulton for the Oscar for Best Special Effects nomination, namely for the also directed by John Ford incurred war film The Long Voyage Home (The Long Voyage Home, 1940) starring John Wayne , Thomas Mitchell and Ian Hunter .
