The Route 55 is a highway in Jordan . The road is a short north-south connection in the north-west of the country, between the city of Irbid and Adschlun and is 35 kilometers long.
Street description
The road starts in Irbid in the center of town on Route 10 . Route 55 is predominantly single-lane. It leads south through the wooded hills and forests of the Adschlun Mountains, past the Arab fortress Qalaʿat ar-Rabad to the city of Adschlun, where a piece of 2 × 2 lanes has been developed. It ends south of Adschlun at Route 20 .
history
Route 55 is of local and regional importance for traffic in northwest Jordan. The two-lane section at Adschlun was built in the 1990s or earlier. This southern part is frequented by tourists coming from Jerash to the Ajhlun fortress .
future
In 2011 the construction of a motorway around Irbid began. This is likely a part of Route 55 and is important to Route 35 as the route no longer has to go through Irbid.
