The Linha Tronco of the Brazilian railway company RMV was commissioned in 1888 with a gauge of 0.76 m from Ribeirão Vermelho under the railway company EF Oeste de Minas (EFOM).
The aim was to connect the south of the state of Goiás via Barra Mansa with the port city of Angra dos Reis in the state of Rio de Janeiro . It was not until 1928 that the line was completed to Angra dos Reis, the end point. In addition, only the section between Barra Mansa and Ribeirão Vermelho was electrified. Passengers were transported on this route until the early 1980s. Today this route is operated by the FCA railroad company in pure freight traffic and without passenger transport.
