history

It was founded on September 1, 1996 as a result of the privatization of the state railway company RFFSA Rede Ferroviária Federal . The company took over the concessions for the two route networks

Current route network of the FCA 2010

In 1999, the FCA came under the control of the mining company Companhia Vale do Rio Doce , which took over a majority of the shares in FCA since 2003. The railway company FCA is pursuing a project that provides for the creation of an export corridor from Pirapora on the Rio São Francisco and the seaport terminal of Porto de Tubarão near Vitória in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo . This transport route should make a major contribution to the export business in the region around Pirapora as early as 2009. Another major project concerns the construction of a new railway line variant Ferroviária Litorânea Sul (VFLS) between Cariacica in Minas Gerais and Cachoeiro do Itapemirim in the state of Espírito Santo. With a total length of 165 km and a connection to the industrial center of Anchieta, this connection will replace an older route that is prone to accidents. The FCA completed a historic project in 2006. This is the Trem da Vale, a restored historic railway line that connects the famous baroque towns of Mariana and Ouro Preto in the state of Minas Gerais.
