Rachel Kolly d'Alba (born May 21, 1981 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss violinist .

education

Rachel Kolly d'Alba received her first violin lessons at the age of five. She received her education at the Conservatoire de Lausanne , which she graduated with a teaching diploma at the age of 15. She then attended Igor Ozim's master class at the University of Music and Theater, Bern , where she completed her soloist diploma. Her teachers include Franco Gulli , Ivry Gitlis , Boris Kuschnir , Hansheinz Schneeberger and Thomas Kakuska (Alban Berg Quartet). Rachel Kolly d'Alba completed her training by studying contemporary music, music analysis and composition and wrote several works (compositions), some of them in collaboration with composers such as Tristan Murail, Eric Gaudibert or Jürg Wyttenbach .

Career

Rachel Kolly d'Alba made her debut as a soloist at the age of 12 and has since performed with renowned orchestras such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, the BBC Philharmonic , the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra , the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne , the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra , the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra BSO, the RAI Symphony Orchestra (Turin), the Milan Symphony Orchestra (Milan), the Orchester National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne, the Orchester de chambre de Toulouse, the Symphony Orchestra Biel Solothurn , the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, the Orquesta Filarmónica d'Asuncion (Paraguay), the Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago (Chili), the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Bern Chamber Orchestra , the Bolzano Chamber Orchestra (Haydn Chamber), the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana , the Lithuanian National Orchestra, or the Jena Philharmonic . She has been a guest at numerous well-known festivals, such as the Menuhin Festival Gstaad , the Incontri Internazionali di musica da camera in Este, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Festival of Poitiers or Menton, the Festival International Encuentros and the Mozarteum at the Teatro Colón from Buenos Aires, the Sigall in Chile, the International Festival of Flanders and the Murten Classics . She has given chamber music concerts for many years with the Swiss pianist Christian Chamorel.

She works with conductors such as Dmitri Kitaïenko , Laurent Gendre, John Axelrod, José Serebrier , Pascal Rophé, Kaspar Zehnder , Jean-Jacques Kantorow , Zolt Nagy, Hervé Klopfenstein , Daniel Kawka, François-Xavier Roth and Marc Kissóczy .

Rachel Kolly d'Alba is also the first Swiss woman whose CD's are produced by Warner Music Group. In 2010 her CD Passion Ysaÿe was released , which is dedicated to the 6 solo sonatas op. 27 of her favorite composer Eugène Ysaÿe and was enthusiastically received by international music critics. In 2012 she received the ICMA Award for her CD recording French Impressions , which was released last year, out of 215 nominations as the best recording of the year in the “Concertos” category. In this recording, Kolly d'Alba performs as a soloist alongside the conductors Jean-Jacques Kantorow and John Axelrod. The CD is dedicated to the works for violin and orchestra by the French composers Saint-Saëns , Chausson , Ravel and the Belgian Ysaÿe. In October 2012 Warner Classics & Jazz released the CD American Serenade . In this recording she plays with the Orchester National des Pays de la Loire , under the direction of the conductor John Axelrod , various works for violin and orchestra by the composers Leonard Bernstein , George Gershwin and Franz Waxman .

Her last CD so far is Lyrical Journey , which was nominated for the ICMA awards 2018 (International classical music awards). In September 2017 Kolly d'Alba won the “Prix culturel Musique 2017” of the cultural foundation of the Canton of Vaud. The award ceremony took place in the Palais de Rumine in Lausanne.

Private life

Rachel Kolly d'Alba is married with one daughter and lives in Basel and Montreux.
