Band history
Ben Cooper grew up in Jacksonville (Florida) and began at the age of 16 together with his childhood friend Rickolus first studio recordings, which were later published as Headache and Pearl Harbor . In 2002 Cooper played a few songs with Corey Loop that came out as Unkle Stiltskin . During this time, Cooper recorded the album The Junkyard Chandelier under the pseudonym Radical Face , but it was never released. Cooper later released solo recordings between 2000 and 2004 under the title Random Junk .
In 2003 Cooper and Alex Kane formed the duo Radical Face Versus Phalex Sledgehammer and recorded three albums together. They later called themselves Electric President and in 2005 received a contract with the Berlin label Morr Music . In 2006 the electro-pop album of the same name was released there. Cooper devoted himself to his solo project Radical Face again in 2006. He concentrated on the classic singer-songwriter scheme and recorded songs he had composed himself alone in his house in Jacksonville. In addition, he orchestrated all the songs abundantly with guitar , piano , banjo , accordion and drums . In 2007 the recordings were released by Morr Music under the title Ghost . The album received very good reviews and has been compared to works by Sufjan Stevens , The Postal Service and The Mountain Goats .
The song Welcome Home was used in the “I Am Nikon” advertising campaign by the photo technology company Nikon of the same name .
His album The Roots , released in January 2012, became part of a trilogy called The Family Tree . Ben Cooper: “I wanted to write a record about a family, but hesitated at first for fear that I wouldn't do it well enough. But when I first started writing, the ideas just bubbled up. After two years I got an overview and found that there was enough song material for at least three albums. ”In 2013 Cooper released the second part with The Branches and in 2016 the third part of the album series came out with the album The Leaves .
