Radowitz (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The von Radowitz family is a German noble family of Hungarian origin.

Family origins and history

The von Radowitz family came from Hungary , where it is first mentioned in documents with Franciscus de Radowicz in 1569 and with Petrus Radovitius in 1588. The secure regular series begins with Joseph Demetrius de Radowicz, born in 1717 in Vas County , died in Helmstedt in 1774. This was the Austrian officer in Cluj stationed Szekler Hussars in 1756 during the Battle of Lobositz in Prussian fall captivity and after the Peace of Hubertusburg entered Prussian service in 1763. He then settled in the Duchy of Braunschweig and called himself v. Radowitz . This form of name and membership of the nobility were not objected to in Prussia and Braunschweig. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the family provided the Prussian and German state with a Prussian Prime Minister and numerous officers and diplomats.
