Radu Șerban (born January 1, 1927 in Caracal , Romania , † February 6, 1984 in Bucharest , Romania) was a Romanian composer and songwriter .

Life

Radu Șerban graduated from the National Music University of Bucharest in 1952 . He then worked from 1954 to 1955 as an inspector for music education in the Ministry of Culture before becoming editor-in-chief for the pop music section of the Romanian Radio. After three years, however, he stopped again. His song Un minut , which he wrote together with Constantin Cârjan , was interpreted by the singer Roxana Matei and was a big hit. This was followed by other hits such as Pomul cu vrăbii (1959), A fost de-ajuns o melodie , Un cântec de dragoste (1960), Pe litoral (1961), Oraşul meu natal (1962) and Tu nu-mi ceri luna (1963) .

His popular music gave Șerban the opportunity to compose film music. He has composed music for films such as Heaven is Without a Grid , Ball on Saturday Night and Everything for the Football Game , working with directors like Francisc Munteanu , Geo Saizescu and Manole Marcus .

He died on February 6, 1984 in Bucharest at the age of 57. In his honor, the Casa de Cultură cultural center in his hometown and a music festival in Olt that has been held since 1990 are named after him.
