Rafał Bruski (born July 1, 1962 in Bydgoszcz ) is a Polish politician ( PO ) and since 2010 mayor of Bydgoszcz.

Life and work

Bruski passed his Abitur at the 6th Lyceum in Bydgoszcz . He then studied at the Maritime University of Gdynia and graduated as an engineer. From 1986 to 1992 he worked as a navigational officer for Polskie Linie Oceaniczne . He then completed a degree in finance and banking as well as postgraduate studies in accounting and finance at the Poznań University of Economics and tax law at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń . During his economics studies he worked for the tax authorities in Bydgoszcz, since 1998 as tax inspector. In 2005 he passed the tax advisor exam and was briefly active in this profession. Bruski is married and has two children.

Bruski politically joined the Platforma Obywatelska of Donald Tusk . In 2006/07 he was deputy mayor of Bydgoszcz and had the task, among other things, of developing a strategy to acquire funds from the EU and private investors. He was also responsible for education and sports. In November 2007 he was appointed voivod of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship .

In the 2010 election for city president, he ran as a candidate for Platforma Obywatelska and won the runoff election with 59.2% of the votes against the incumbent incumbent Konstanty Dombrowicz. In the municipal elections in 2014 there was again a runoff against Dombrowicz, this time with 57.1% of the vote. In the self-government elections in Poland in 2018 , he again applied for the office of city president and was elected for the first time in the first ballot with 54.6% of the votes against four competitors. In the election to the city council, which took place at the same time, the electoral alliance Koalicja Obywatelska from PO and Nowoczesna achieved an absolute majority in the city council with 42.6% of the votes and 16 of the 31 mandates to be awarded.
