Rafael Lira Infante

Rafael Lira Infante (born March 15, 1879 in Santiago de Chile , † September 26, 1958 in Valparaíso ) was a Chilean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Valparaíso.

Life

Lira Infante worked as a lawyer from 1902 before entering the seminary in his hometown. On December 21, 1912, at the age of 33, he was ordained a priest . He was first a teacher at the seminary of Santiago and later its rector.

Pope Pius XI appointed him on December 14, 1925 bishop of the newly established diocese of Rancagua . The episcopal ordination received Rafael Lira Infante on 3 January 1926 by the later Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella , the then Apostolic Nuncio was in Chile. Co- consecrators were Gilberto Fuenzalida Guzmán , Bishop of Concepción , and Eduardo Gimpert Paut , Bishop of Valparaíso . On March 17, 1938, Pope Pius XI appointed him Bishop of Valparaíso, which Lira Infante remained until his death in 1958.
