The Roman Catholic Diocese of Valparaíso ( lat. : Dioecesis Vallis Paradisi , span. : Diócesis de Valparaíso ) is one in Chile located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church , based in Valparaiso .

history

The diocese Valparaíso was on November 2, 1872 by Pope Pius IX. established from the cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile as Mission sui juris Valparaíso . On October 18, 1925, the Mission sui juris Valparaíso by Pope Pius XI. with the papal bull Apostolici muneris ratio raised to the diocese. The diocese is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile as a suffragan .

The diocese is responsible for the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso .
