The Diocese of Valdivia ( lat. : Dioecesis valdiviensis , span. : Diócesis de Valdivia ) is an in Chile located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Valdivia .

history

The diocese of Valdivia was established on June 14, 1910 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory from the diocese of San Carlos de Ancud as a Mission sui juris Valdivia . On September 25, 1924, the Mission sui juris Valdivia was elevated to the Apostolic Administration.

On July 8, 1944, the Apostolic Administratur Valdivia by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolicis sub plumbo Litteris raised to the diocese. The diocese gave up on November 15, 1955 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Osorno . The diocese of Valdivia is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Concepción as a suffragan .
