history

The diocese of San Carlos de Ancud was founded on July 1, 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI. built with the Papal Bull Ubi Primum from cessions of territory of the diocese of Concepción . The diocese gave several times in its history parts of its territory to establish new dioceses. It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Puerto Montt as a suffragan .
