The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Serena ( lat. : Archidioecesis Serenensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de La Serena ) is an in Chile located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church , based in La Serena .
history
The diocese of La Serena was founded on July 1, 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI. built with the papal bull Ad Apostolicae Fastigium from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile and subordinated to this as a suffragan .
On May 29, 1939, the diocese of La Serena was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quo Provinciarum raised to the archbishopric. On November 9, 1946, the Archdiocese of La Serena gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Administration of Copiapó . The Archdiocese of La Serena gave up parts of its territory on April 30, 1960 to establish the Illapel Territorial Prelature .
