Gonzalo Duarte García de Cortázar SSCC (born September 27, 1942 in Valparaíso ) is a Chilean religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Valparaíso .

Life

Gonzalo Duarte García de Cortázar joined the order of the Arnstein Fathers and was ordained a priest on July 8, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him military bishop of Chile and titular bishop of Lamiggiga on January 31, 1995 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Chile, Archbishop Piero Biggio , donated him episcopal ordination on April 2 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were José Joaquín Matte Varas , Military Bishop Emeritus of Chile, and Francisco Javier Prado Aránguiz SSCC, Bishop of Rancagua . As a motto he chose Dominus fortitudo mea . He renounced his titular seat Lamiggiga on March 7, 1998. On December 4, 1998 he was appointed Bishop of Valparaíso. He resigned from his post as military bishop on November 4, 1999.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 11, 2018.
