Pablo Lizama Riquelme

Pablo Lizama Riquelme (born May 16, 1941 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Antofagasta .

Life

Pablo Lizama Riquelme was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile on July 6, 1967 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Prelate of Illapel on December 19, 1985 . The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Juan Francisco Cardinal Fresno Larraín , donated him episcopal ordination on March 9 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Carlos González Cruchaga , Bishop of Talca , and José Joaquín Matte Varas , Military Bishop of Chile . The inauguration in Illapel took place a week later.

On February 24, 1988, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Talca. The Pope appointed him on April 4, 1991 as the first bishop of the diocese of Melipilla, established on the same date . The inauguration took place on May 1st of the same year. On January 4, 1999, he was appointed military bishop of Chile. On February 27, 2004, the Pope appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Antofagasta. With Patricio Infante Alfonso's retirement , he succeeded him on November 26, 2004 in the office of Archbishop of Antofagasta. Pope Benedict XVI also appointed him on October 9, 2012 for the vacancy until March 29, 2014 as Apostolic Administrator of Iquique .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 8, 2017.

He is the Grand Chancellor of the Catholic University of Northern Chile .
