Enrique Troncoso Troncoso (born November 11, 1937 in Alhué , † March 29, 2018 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Melipilla .

Life

Enrique Troncoso Troncoso, the eldest of six brothers, attended the Minor Seminary in Santiago and in 1955 moved to the Pontifical Major Seminary in Santiago, where he studied philosophy; He studied theology at the Catholic University of Chile. In 1961 he was ordained a deacon. The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Raúl Silva Henríquez SDB , ordained him as a priest on December 23, 1961 in the Iglesia del Colegio de San Ignacio . After pastoral work, he completed a theological training course and a degree in theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca in Madrid . In 1978 he became a pastor in Talagante , Chile. In 1982 Troncoso took over the general secretariat of the Archdiocese of Santiago and was also pastor of Santa Filomena de Santiago. On March 3, 1985, he took over the position of Vice Rector of the Pontifical Grand Seminary of Santiago.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Iquique on July 15, 1989 . The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Juan Francisco Cardinal Fresno Larraín , donated him episcopal ordination in the Templo Votivo de Maipú on August 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Carlos González Cruchaga , Bishop of Talca , and Alberto Jara Franzoy , Bishop of Chillán . As a motto he chose Vengo a hacer tu voluntad (I come to do your will.).

On May 28, 2000, he was appointed Bishop of Melipilla by John Paul II , and on July 23 of the same year he was appointed to the office.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 7, 2014.
