Alberto Jara Franzoy

Alberto Jara Franzoy (born July 27, 1929 in Santiago de Chile ; † September 5, 2019 there ) was a Chilean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Chillán .

Life

Alberto Jara Franzoy, fourth of seven brothers, attended the German School in Santiago and studied architecture at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. During his studies he entered the Pontifical Seminary in Santiago to pursue his vocation as a priest. Nevertheless, he completed his architecture studies. He also completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He received on 4 March 1962 by Raúl Silva Henríquez the priesthood . After pastoral work in the Archdiocese of Santiago, he became responsible for the schools and was Secretary General of COMIN of the Bishops' Conference of Chile from 1975 to 1982. In addition, from 1980 to 1982 he was in charge of deacon training in Santiago. In 1981/82 he was the pastoral secretary of the Archdiocese of Santiago.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Chillán on April 30, 1982. The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile Raúl Cardinal Silva Henríquez SDB donated him episcopal ordination on June 6 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were José Manuel Santos Ascarza OCD , Bishop of Valdivia and Carlos González Cruchaga , Bishop of Talca . His episcopal motto was "He has come to serve", taken from the text of Matthew 20:28.

On March 25, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
