Carlos Eduardo Pellegrín Barrera SVD (born July 28, 1958 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Chillán .

Life

Carlos Eduardo Pellegrín Barrera joined the religious order of the Steyler Missionaries , made his profession on April 23, 1978 and was ordained a priest on November 9, 1985 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 25, 2006 Bishop of Chillán. The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile , Cardinal Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa , donated him episcopal ordination on April 29 of the same year . Co-consecrators were Rafael de la Barra Tagle SVD, Prelate of Illapel , and Alberto Jara Franzoy , Former Bishop of Chillán.

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on September 21, 2018.

Carlos Pellegrín is one of the seven Chilean bishops who are being investigated by public prosecutors because of various implications in the abuse affair in the Chilean Roman Catholic Church .
