Rafael Mijares Alcérreca
Rafael Mijares Alcérreca (born September 23, 1924 in Mexico City ; incorrectly also Mijares Alcerra ; † November 9, 2015 ) was a Mexican architect and painter.
biography
Mijares studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and was one of the most important Mexican architects.
He designed a variety of well-known buildings. Between 1955 and 1957, for example, fifteen markets were built in Mexico City, which he designed together with the architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez , Juan José Díaz Infante Núñez and Javier Echeverría . Together with Vázquez, he designed the Aztec Stadium in 1962 and the Museo de Arte Moderno in 1964, as well as the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City with Vázquez and Jorge Campuzano . He was involved in the Mexican pavilions at the world expositions in Seattle, Washington and New York. He also designed the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores building in 1970 . After the campus of the Universidad Iberoamericana was destroyed in an earthquake in 1979, he designed the current building together with J. Francisco Serrano Cacho .
He has received several awards for his work, including the Knightly Order of King Leopold II of Belgium .
After being at José Lazcarro courses in the training workshop in the "Molino de Santo Domingo" ( dt. : Mill St. Domingo ) visited Mijares began in 1978 with the abstract painting .
