Ragley Hall
Ragley Hall is a manor house south of Alcester , about 13 km west of Stratford-upon-Avon in the English county of Warwickshire . It is the seat of the Marquess of Hertford .
history
The house owned by Dr. Robert Hooke had Edward Conway, 1st Earl of Conway , built in 1680. The great hall is said to have been designed by James Wyatt in 1780.
During the Second World War , the house served as a military hospital and was then refurbished from 1956 to 1958 and made accessible to the public.
In 1983, painter Graham Rust completed a giant mural depicting family members, friends, and pets, titled The Temptation , on display in the south stairwell.
At Ragley Hall was the Jerwood Sculpture Trail , which opened in July 2004. There were works on display that had won the Jerwood Sculpture Prize , e.g. B. that of Dame Elisabeth Frink . But the park was closed again in April 2012.
In film and television
Ragley Hall was used as the set for the television version of The Scarlet Seal .
Ragley Hall played the role of the much larger Palace of Versailles in the fourth episode of the second series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who , entitled The Girl in the Fireplace , which first aired in the United Kingdom in May 2006.
In 2008 the mansion was used as a film set for Luke Massey's short film Within the Woods .
