history

The origins of Raiffeisen-Volksbank Ebern eG go back to the years 1888–1900. According to the historical documents of the Bavarian Cooperative Association, there was already a loan association in Ebern, which must later have been dissolved. Exact documents could not be found either in the Bamberg registry court or in the Bamberg and Würzburg state archives.

On February 28, 1925, the founding meeting of the Ebern eGmbH loan association took place in the Stern inn on the initiative and invitation of the Ebern BayWa warehouse manager Höfer. Hans Heinert became the first director together with Georg Hagel, Max Schmitt, Peter Oppelt and Hans Batzner.

After many mergers with smaller institutions in the region, the then Raiffeisenbank Ebern eG established contact with the former Raiffeisenbank and Handelsgenossenschaft Heldburg eG in the spring of 1990, which in autumn of the same year became one of the first mergers between a cooperative bank in Germany and a cooperative of the former GDR led.

In its last form, the bank existed since December 9, 1998 through the merger with Raiffeisen-Volksbank Untermerzbach eG.

At the beginning of November 2017, the bank merged with Raiffeisen-Volksbank Lichtenfels-Itzgrund eG to become VR-Bank Lichtenfels-Ebern eG, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2017 . The "new" bank, based in Lichtenfels, has 18 branches and a self-service branch.
