Rainer zu Rain is the name of an old Lower Bavarian noble family . The family held the hereditary rank of chamberlain in the Duchy of Bavaria . The beginning of the 16th century Carinthia migrated line of the Barons of Rain to Sommeregg was as heirs of the local lords of digging to viscount and gentlemen Sommeregg and the baron charged. The headquarters in Rain is now a municipality in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen .

history

The nobility residing in Rain was probably in the service of the Lords of Bogen and several churches (in addition to St. Emmeram, alsoChecking , Mallersdorf and the Hochstift Regensburg ). Pertholdus de Rain appeared in the first half of the 13th century, presumably he is identical to Berthold von Rain , from whom the Rohr monastery acquired the bailiwick rights over several estates in Alburg , Kay and Bernloh . This monastery had already acquired goods from Rupert von Rain and Gottschalk von Rain earlier (around 1138–1146) .

Bavarian trunk line

After the death of Albrecht V von Bogen († 1242) Rain came to the Wittelsbach family . Duke Henry pledged the curia to Rain Karl [Rain], son of Vitztums Otto von Straubing. He also gave the castle to him, but emphasized that it was not a pledge. This Von Rain family comes from the Schönsteiners and is part of the Vitztum von Straubing family . Albrecht von Strubing and Karl von Rain are named as brothers in 1292. That Karl called himself Von Rain from 1290 ; the name Rain refers to the district of Straubing in which Karl built a permanent house.

The family, now called Rainer zu Rain, stayed here until the middle of the 16th century. The Rain held the hereditary chief treasurer of the Duchy of Bavaria.

The place Rain was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark , whose seat was Rain. In the coat of arms of Rain, the two blue diagonal bars correspond to the coat of arms of Rainer von Rain.

Carinthian line

The Carinthian line was founded by Haymeran von Rain zu Sommeregg († 1543) from Bavaria, who married Rosina von Graben zu Sommeregg . Rosina was the heir to the Sommeregger burgrave Ernst von Graben , and so this rule and various other goods passed to the Von Rain family in 1513.

Haymeran was in the service of Emperor Ferdinand I and served the imperial family as field captain in Italy. For their services, the brothers Haymeran and Christoph Reiner [Rainer, Von Rain] were appointed barons of Rain zu Sommeregg by Emperor Karl V on November 10, 1530 . The marriage of Haymeran and Rosina had at least three daughters, including Beatrix von Rain († 1538), and a son, Hans Joachim von Rain zu Sommeregg , who was married to Catharina Auwetia from Auburg. Since Hans Joachim moved his center of power back to Bavaria, he sold Sommeregg and the Töplitsch office in 1550 to Christoph Khevenhüller von Aichelberg . Various Carinthian family members are buried in the Lienz "Sankt Michaelskirche" ( East Tyrol ), the burial place of the Lords of Graben zu Sommeregg .

Shortly after returning home, the Rain family died out. The heir, Ursula von Rain, married Paul von Leublfing in 1573 and also brought Rain Castle into the marriage.
