Rainer Hammwöhner (born December 14, 1956 in Billerbeck in Westphalia , † March 4, 2016 in Regensburg ) was a German information scientist .

Life

Rainer Hammwöhner studied medical informatics at the University of Heidelberg from 1978 to 1983 . In 1983 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Information Science at the University of Konstanz and was particularly involved in projects for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF . In 1990 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Automatic construction of hypertext bases from descriptive expository texts - A hypertext model for information retrieval . After research assistant at the Institute for Information Science in Konstanz, where he was entrusted with the management of the WITH project of the German Research Foundation DFG together with Rainer Kuhlen , he completed his habilitation in information sciences with a paper on open hypertexts .

After a deputy chair for information science at the University of Regensburg from 1996 to 1998, he was appointed to the chair for information science in Regensburg in 1998. He was dean of the Philosophical Faculty IV - Linguistics and Literature Studies (2007–2009) and a member of the Senate and the University Council of the University of Regensburg (2009–2013).

Rainer Hammwöhner was married and the father of a son and a daughter.

Act

Rainer Hammwöhner conducted research in the fields of hypermedia , text technology and human-machine interaction for over twenty years . In this context he dealt with electronic encyclopedias , especially Wikipedia and its quality. His research interests included the relationship between formalism , thinking and information technology as well as the pragmatic concept of knowledge.

He led research projects were from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the, German Research Foundation and the European Union encouraged.

Honor

In memory of Rainer Hammwöhner, the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Regensburg held a symposium on February 3, 2017 on the subject of people: information . The speakers included a. Rainer Kuhlen , Christian Wolff, Daniel Drascek and Johannes Helmbrecht. In connection with the symposium, the photo exhibition Raum: Blick mit Werken Rainer Hammwöhner was opened, which shows pictures of the university from idiosyncratic perspectives on the subject.
