Rainer kitchen master
Rainer Maria Küchenmeister (born October 14, 1926 in Ahlen / Westphalia , † May 6, 2010 in Paris ) was a German painter and university professor.
Life
Rainer Küchenmeister is the son of the lathe operator and communist journalist Walter Küchenmeister , who belonged to the "Rote Kapelle" resistance group during the Third Reich and was executed in 1943. In 1928 he moved with his parents to Berlin , where his brother Claus Küchenmeister was born. After attending school, he began training as a decorative painter in 1941. Before that, he had already assisted the painter and sculptor Kurt Schumacher , a friend of his father's, with the design of the entrance hall of the “Neue Post” in Berlin-Schöneberg and, in the process, learned the basic techniques of wall painting.
He also supported his father and his friends in political work, after their arrest he was imprisoned in the Moringen youth concentration camp and in March 1945 still in a Wehrmacht punishment battalion . Meanwhile, his mother died in an air raid on Berlin.
After the liberation he wanted to start studying art and was accepted on a trial basis at the Weißensee Art School , but was relegated there after a short time. In 1946/47, kitchen master attended the Bielefeld master school for German craftsmanship. In the 1950s he lived mainly in West Berlin , but was not recognized there as a painter. In 1964 his works were shown in the painting department at documenta III in Kassel . This was the first time that his pictures received international attention. In 1969 he was appointed professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and he became a full member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts .
Rainer Küchenmeister lived in Normandy and Paris . He died at the age of 83 after a serious illness.
