Claus Küchenmeister (born September 7, 1930 in Berlin ; † December 13, 2014 ) was a German writer .

Life

Claus Küchenmeister was the son of the lathe operator and communist journalist Walter Küchenmeister , who belonged to the " Rote Kapelle " resistance group during the Third Reich and was executed in 1943. Claus Küchenmeister was brought to Switzerland by Elfriede Paul in 1942 , where he attended the institute on the Rosenberg near St. Gallen until 1946 . In 1946 he returned to Berlin. In 1949/50 he studied at the German Theater Institute in Weimar, where he met Wera Skupin , whom he married in 1952. After working in the DEFA young talent studio, he was a master student at the Berliner Ensemble Bertolt Brechts from 1952 to 1954 . For his work there as an assistant director , he received a diploma from the German Academy of the Arts in 1960 . From 1955, Küchenmeister worked as a dramaturge , from 1965 to 1969 he headed the scenario department at the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam-Babelsberg . From 1970 he worked as a screenwriter and scenarioist at the DEFA studio for feature films.

In addition to numerous scripts for DEFA, Küchenmeister has written novels and children's books since the 1950s . Most of his literary works were created in collaboration with his wife Wera Küchenmeister.

From 1957 to 1990 he was a member of the Writers' Union of the GDR , since 1968 he was a member of its board. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Association of German Writers (VDS) and the Association of Those Persecuted by the Nazi Regime - Association of Antifascists (VVN) in Berlin.

He and his wife Wera worked under the code names "Kaminski" and "Sonja" at the latest from 1964 with interruption until 1979 for the Ministry for State Security of the GDR.

His written estate is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
