Rainer Lindow

Rainer Lindow (born April 23, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German writer , director and painter .

Live and act

Born in Wedding in Berlin, he survived the war with his mother in Thuringia. He graduated from sports school and Schinkeloberschule and learned the profession of typesetter. In 1962 he studied painting at Waluscha Friedrich's private school. He worked as a small actor at the Deutsches Theater , as a co-driver and set painter. During this time he published his first radio plays, which were followed by a good dozen other radio plays and features.

After several unsuccessful attempts due to considerable disabilities from the Stasi , he was able to begin studying directing at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Film Academy in 1968 . After the directorial diploma, worked as an assistant director and director for television in the GDR . Due to irreconcilable contradictions, he resigned from his permanent employment contract and has been working as a freelance writer, painter and documentary film director since 1975.

He wrote several scripts for film and television, short stories and plays. His piece Rumpelstilz was premiered at the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam and broadcast as a television play and radio play.

Study visits took him to France , Holland , Israel , Ukraine , Poland and Great Britain . In 1991 he received a three-month scholarship from the Villa Massimo (Casa Baldi in Olevano Romano) in Italy. In 1972 he received the Silver Laurel, in 1993 the Hans Fallada Radio Play Prize, and in 1994 the Wolfen Literature Prize advertised for the German-speaking area. His pictures have been exhibited in Berlin, London , Potsdam and Alzenau (Lower Franconia).

Rainer Lindow has a daughter and two sons. His second wife, the writer Maria Seidemann , died of cancer in 2010. He completed her last, unfinished novel "Die Krähenjägerin" and published it in 2012 at Projekt Verlag Halle.
