The World Festival of Youth and Students in Berlin was a world youth festival with eight million visitors and 25,600 guests from 140 countries. Beat and rock music and songs from singing clubs could be heard on 95 stages . The participating youth and student associations were predominantly left-wing, often communist-oriented.
