Rainer Tscharke (born August 1, 1942 in Babelsberg ) is a former volleyball player and coach from the GDR .

Career

Tscharke began playing volleyball as a high school student. In 1960 and 1961 he was GDR youth champion. In the GDR championship in the 1960s, SC Leipzig dominated before SC Dynamo Berlin , Tscharke came third with TSC Berlin six times between 1966 and 1972.

Tscharke began his international career in the B national team, since 1965 he was part of the GDR national team , in which he completed a total of 189 international matches. Tscharke took fourth place with the GDR team from 1966 three times in a row at the season highlight. In 1969 he won the Volleyball World Cup and the following year he was there when the GDR team won the title at the 1970 World Cup in Bulgaria. After a fourth place at the European Championships in 1971 , the GDR team reached the final at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and received the silver medal after the final defeat against the Japanese team .

Tscharke worked as a trainer at TSC Berlin from 1973. In 1984 and 1986 he led the club to the GDR championship, from 1984 to 1986 he won the GDR Cup three times. Until 2006 he was a youth coach at TSC. In addition to his job, Tscharke was also a coach in disabled sports, so he looked after the German volleyball players at the 2004 Summer Paralympics .
