Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore ( Hindi : राज्यवर्धन सिंह राठौड़; born January 29, 1970 in Jaisalmer , Rajasthan ) is an Indian marksman and politician .

Rathore comes from the respected Indian-Rajput princely family of the Rathor and is a descendant of Rao Bikaji, the first ruler of Bikaner. He won a silver medal in his country Double Trap -Schießen at the 2004 Olympics in Athens . In the same year he won a gold medal at the Sydney World Cup. At the Commonwealth Shooting Championships 2005 in Melbourne he was a member of the winning team in double trap shooting. Both in team shooting and in the individual competition of his discipline, he won gold at the Asian Clay Shooting Championships 2005 in Bangkok . His gold medal in the individual competition was after his victories in 2003 and 2004 Rathore's third gold medal in a row at these annual championships.

He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army.

In 2004 he received the Arjuna Award and in 2005 the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna , the highest honor for Indian athletes, presented annually by the Indian government. He was also awarded the Padma Shri .

In 2013, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the parliamentary elections in India in 2014 he was elected for the BJP from the constituency of Jaipur Rural in the Lok Sabha , the lower house of the all-India parliament. In his constituency, he defeated the incumbent Federal Minister CP Joshi by a large number of votes. On November 9, 2014, he was appointed Minister of State (State Secretary) in the Modi I cabinet in the Information and Broadcasting Department.
