Rales is a Parroquia with 76 inhabitants (as of 2014) in the municipality ( consejo ) Llanes in the autonomous region of Asturias in northern Spain .

location

The place Rales is located on the central reaches of the Río Bedón about 25 kilometers north of the mountain range of the Picos de Europa at an altitude of about 40 meters above sea level. d. M. The distance to Llanes is about 15 kilometers (driving distance) in a north-easterly direction; the place Meré is about six kilometers south and the Playa de San Antolín about six kilometers north.

economy

Until the middle of the 20th century, the inhabitants of Rales lived mainly as a self-sufficient source of income from their fields and gardens, as well as from their fruit trees and from raising cattle. Today tourism plays a not insignificant role in the economic life of the place.

history

Small Stone Age finds were made in the caves of Rales. The Celts , Romans , Visigoths and Moors left no traces. The place name is first mentioned in a document in 1137; the place belonged at that time to the possession of the monastery of San Antolín de Bedón . In the middle of the 16th century, the San Antolín Monastery was converted into a priory of the now defunct San Salvador de Celorio Monastery .
